There Is No Game

There Is No Game is a short, brilliant puzzle experience where your main obstacle is the game's own narrator. Right from the title screen, a disembodied voice insists that nothing is here to play and actively tries to stop you from interacting with anything. To actually play, you have to ignore him entirely and start breaking the interface.

This original 2015 browser classic plays like a meta point-and-click adventure. What starts as clicking the title letters until they fall off quickly turns into a series of clever mini-games. You will find yourself playing a makeshift game of Breakout with the volume icon, rescuing a glitchy goat, and solving logic puzzles using pieces of the user interface you just dismantled.

Tips

• Poke at everything: If a piece of text or an icon looks like it is just part of the menu, click it anyway. Most puzzles involve dragging unexpected things around.
• Use gravity: Dropping heavy letters or objects from the top of the screen is a great way to smash open elements.
• Listen to the narrator: Even though he is trying to stop you, his complaints often accidentally hint at exactly what you need to do next.

Taking only about 15 minutes to complete, it is a perfectly paced comedic puzzle game that rewards curiosity and thinking outside the standard boundaries of a screen.
