About Master Checkers

Master Checkers takes the standard game of draughts and puts it on a simple, uncluttered board you can play in a browser tab. Two players take turns sliding pieces diagonally across the dark squares, jumping over an opponent's piece to remove it from play, until one side has no pieces or no legal move left.

There's no clock pressure and no extra systems layered on top of the classic rules, so a game moves at whatever pace both players want it to. Play against the built-in computer opponent when no one else is around, or pass the same device back and forth for a local two-player match.

Controls

Click or tap a piece, then click or tap the square you want to move it to. Mandatory jumps are enforced the same as in standard checkers, so if a capture is available you'll need to take it before making any move.

Tips

  • Get a piece to the far row and it's crowned a king, letting it move and capture backward as well as forward — worth protecting once you have one.
  • Holding your back row a while longer makes it harder for your opponent to crown their own pieces early.
  • A capture is mandatory whenever one is on the board, so look one move ahead before you commit — an unprotected piece is a free jump for the side.

Good for a quiet one-on-one match against the computer or a quick round against a friend sharing the same screen.

Master Checkers FAQ

How do I crown a king in Master Checkers?
Move a piece all the way to the row furthest from where it started. It's crowned a king and can then move and capture both forward and backward.
Are captures mandatory?
Yes. If a jump is available on your turn, you have to take it before making any other move — standard checkers rules.
Can two people play Master Checkers on one device?
Yes, there's a local two-player mode where you take turns on the same screen, alongside the single-player mode against the computer.
Does Master Checkers work on mobile?
Yes, it runs in the browser on phones and tablets with tap controls as well as on desktop with a mouse.
