About Little Alchemy

Little Alchemy turns a blank canvas into an obsessive sandbox of discovery. You begin with just four fundamental elements: air, earth, fire, and water. By dragging these basic building blocks onto the board and stacking them on top of one another, you create new materials, concepts, and objects. The joy of the game comes from the pure experimentation of seeing what logical (and sometimes wonderfully illogical) combinations will result in something entirely new, slowly expanding your repertoire from basic puddles and lava all the way up to spaceships and mythical creatures.

The pacing is entirely up to you, making it the perfect game to keep open in a tab and return to whenever you have a free minute. There is no timer, no fail state, and no pressure. Every successful combination adds a permanent new tile to your inventory, fueling a satisfying loop of trying to deduce the next recipe based on what you just discovered. It is an exercise in lateral thinking where figuring out how to make a dinosaur feels like a genuine achievement.

Controls

The entire game is played using a mouse or touchscreen.

  • Left Click and Drag: Move an element from your inventory (on the right) onto the workspace, or stack it on another element to combine them.
  • Double Click: Instantly clone an element that is already on your workspace.
  • Clean Up Button: Located at the bottom of the screen, this clears your workspace without deleting the items from your inventory.

Tips for Discovery

  • Watch for underlines: If an element in your inventory has an underline beneath it, it is a final item. This means it cannot be combined with anything else, so do not waste time trying to mix it.
  • Think literally, then conceptually: Some combinations are straightforward (water + earth = mud), but others require abstract thinking. For example, consider what a human might need to create a specific profession or tool.
  • Organize your workspace: Keep your board clean. Trying to combine elements in a massive pile gets confusing quickly. Pull out a few items, test them systematically, and use the clean up button often.

Whether you want to relax for five minutes or spend an hour hunting down the final elusive items, Little Alchemy offers a uniquely satisfying puzzle experience.
