The third entry in the legendary cooperative puzzle series introduces a completely new movement mechanic. Fireboy and Watergirl must escape the frozen chambers of the Ice Temple, but the icy surfaces change how both characters handle. You still need to coordinate to press buttons, redirect light beams, and collect elemental diamonds, but the treacherous footing requires careful momentum management to avoid falling into the deadly green sludge.
The asymmetric physics make this installment uniquely challenging. Fireboy slips rapidly across frozen platforms but cannot scale snow-covered inclines. Watergirl, on the hand, moves sluggishly across ice but maintains enough grip to climb steep snowy slopes. Playing solo demands intense ambidexterity, while local co-op requires clear communication so you don't accidentally drop your partner into a pit.
Controls
- Fireboy: Move and jump using the Arrow Keys. Avoid water and green goo.
- Watergirl: Move and jump using the W, A, S, D keys. Avoid lava and green goo.
Tips for the Ice Temple
- Use the ice for distance: Fireboy's sliding speed lets him leap much further across gaps than normal, as long as he has a running start.
- Melt and freeze: Many puzzles require using the temple's light beams to freeze water into ice or melt ice back into water to create a path for the right character.
- Wait for your partner: Never rush ahead. Most mechanisms require one character to hold a switch open while the passes through and finds a way to keep the door unlocked.
