Fireboy and Watergirl requires two players (or one very coordinated person) to guide a pair of elemental heroes through treacherous temple rooms. You have to work together, as neither character can complete a level on their own. The core loop involves figuring out the correct sequence of buttons, levers, and moving platforms to reach the exit doors while avoiding deadly pools.
Every level is a standalone puzzle that tests your spatial reasoning and teamwork. The challenge ramps up as you progress, introducing mechanics like light beams and mirrors that require precise timing and placement. Because both characters must survive to beat a level, communication and patience are essential.
Controls
- Fireboy: Move and jump using the Arrow Keys.
- Watergirl: Move and jump using the W, A, S, and D keys.
Tips
- Plan your route before moving. The timer at the top affects your final grade, but rushing into a pool of green goo will force you to restart the entire level.
- Use one character to hold down a button while the slips through the opened door to activate a permanent lever on the side.
- Remember that Fireboy can safely walk through lava, and Watergirl can safely walk through water. However, the green goo is instantly fatal to both of them.
It's the ultimate test of cooperation that remains satisfying whether you're speedrunning or playing for the first time.
