Snake is a pure test of reflexes and spatial awareness where you guide a continuously moving line around a constrained grid. Your only goal is to consume the food that appears randomly on the board, which adds a new segment to your body and incrementally increases your score. There are no levels to beat or enemies to fight, just a constant, accelerating battle against your own ever-growing length.
A typical run starts off feeling calm and manageable, giving you plenty of space to maneuver. As you eat more, the available real estate shrinks drastically, turning what was once a simple task of grabbing dots into a tense puzzle of route planning. You have to think several moves ahead to ensure you don't accidentally box yourself in, making every turn critical the longer you survive.
Controls
You can steer using the Arrow Keys or WASD. You cannot stop moving, and you cannot reverse your current direction directly (e.g., you cannot move down if you are currently moving up).
Tips
- Keep the middle clear: Try to route your long tail along the outer edges of the grid. This leaves the center open so you have a direct path to newly spawned food.
- Follow your tail: When space gets tight, routing your head to closely trace the path of your tail is a safe way to buy time while waiting for your body to move out of the way.
- Don't rush: Once you get large, prioritize safe, methodical paths over taking the absolute shortest route to the food.
It is a perfect game for short, focused sessions, running smoothly in any modern browser without requiring an installation.
