Chibi Knight Game

Chibi Knight, made by BoMToons, casts you as a small sword-wielding heroine defending the kingdom of Oukoku from three giant monsters and the armies of smaller creatures they've sent ahead of them. It plays like a mix of Zelda-style overworld exploration and side-scrolling sword combat: you walk between areas on a top-down map, then drop into 2D stages to fight your way through.

Killing enemies earns experience, so a session is as much about grinding a bit of XP and learning new spells from wizards you meet along the way as it is about reaching the next boss. Each of the three giant monsters guards its own stretch of the map, and you'll need to clear out its minions and beat a few miniboss fights before you're strong enough to take it on directly.

• S — open the spell menu to cast magic you've learned
• P — pause the game

Tips

• Don't rush past regular enemies — the XP they drop is what lets you survive the miniboss fights guarding each giant monster.
• Visit the wizards you find on the overworld; the spells they teach give you options besides swinging your sword, which matters against tougher bosses.
• If an area feels too hard, it's usually a sign to go grind XP or explore an easier part of the map first rather than force your way through.

Chibi Knight suits players who like old-school action-RPGs with a slasher's pace — short on hand-holding, generous with boss fights, and playable in the browser with nothing to install.
