SUPERHOT Prototype is the legendary game jam project that redefined the first-person shooter genre with one simple, mind-bending mechanic: time moves only when you move. If you stand completely still, the world around you pauses, giving you the chance to analyze bullet trajectories, track enemy movements, and plan your next step. The moment you take a step or aim your weapon, time rushes forward, turning a methodical puzzle into an intense, high-stakes shootout.
Set in a stark, minimalist world of white rooms and contrasting red enemies, the game focuses entirely on reflexes, positioning, and strategy. You are always outnumbered and outgunned, and a single hit means instant death. Every encounter requires you to calculate your movements precisely, dodging bullets in slow motion while deciding whether to punch, shoot, or throw your weapon to survive.
Controls
- WASD: Move forward, backward, and side-to-side (speeds up time).
- Mouse Movement: Look around and aim your shots (speeds up time slightly).
- Left Click: Shoot your weapon or punch when unarmed.
- Right Click: Throw your currently held gun.
Tips for Survival
- Stop and Think: Do not rush. Whenever you are in a tight spot, stop moving to freeze time. Take a moment to look around, locate all active threats, and find the safest path forward.
- Use Throwing as a Weapon: When your pistol runs out of bullets, click the right mouse button to throw it directly at an enemy. This will stun them and cause them to drop their weapon, allowing you to grab it mid-air and keep fighting.
- Keep Moving to Dodge: Bullets leave clear red trails in the air. If a bullet is heading straight for you, step to the side. As long as you keep moving perpendicular to the bullet's path, you can easily slide right past it.
