Mine Blocks is a 2D take on Minecraft that started life as a Flash game and has since been rebuilt for HTML5, developed by the indie creator Zanzlanz. You drop into a randomly generated world made of destructible blocks, dig sideways and down instead of in three dimensions, and gather wood, stone and ore to craft tools, weapons and a base before dark.
Survival mode is where the challenge lives: hunger and hostile mobs like creepers and zombies force you to plan a shelter early, then push out toward caves, dungeons and eventually a dragon fight once you're geared up. Creative mode drops the danger and the resource limits entirely, giving you unlimited blocks and flight so you can build without interruption. There's also Hardcore for a stricter survival run, and a multiplayer Scavenger Hunt minigame where players race to find ten items within eight minutes.
Controls
- A / D or arrow keys — move left and right; double-tap to sprint
- W / Space — jump (double-tap to fly in Creative mode)
- Left click, held — mine the block under the cursor
- Right click — place a block or use the selected item
- E — open your inventory to craft and equip armor
Tips
- Build or dig into a simple shelter before your first night — that's when hostile mobs start spawning.
- Keep torches lit along tunnels; unlit caves are where most ambushes happen.
- Crafting armor and a decent pickaxe early makes the jump into cave systems much safer.
- If you just want to build, switch to Creative mode from the start — there's no penalty for skipping Survival.
With hundreds of blocks and items, tameable animals, custom skins and full crafting, brewing and enchanting systems, Mine Blocks suits both players who want a proper survival grind and anyone who just wants to build in a 2D Minecraft-style world.
