About Heart Star

Heart Star is a two-character puzzle platformer from indie developer Jussi Simpanen (Adventure Islands), built for the Ludum Dare 30 game jam before growing into its own full release. You guide a red character and a blue one through the same level at once, and the trick is that each can only stand on platforms matching their own color — purple ground is the one surface both can share.

Since neither character can finish a level alone, the core idea is using one as a stepping stone for the . Boost your partner onto a ledge they couldn't otherwise reach, switch control, then bring the first one up behind them. It's a slower, more deliberate kind of platforming than most jump-and-run games — each screen is really a small logic puzzle about sequencing, not reflexes.

Controls

WASD or the arrow keys move whichever character is active. C switches control between the two characters, and X makes the active one jump.

Tips

  • Look at the level before moving either character — most obstacles have an obvious order you're meant to solve them in once you spot which color needs to go first.
  • Use a parked character as a platform on purpose. Standing one character still under a ledge is often the only way to get the one up.
  • If you're stuck, switch to the character you haven't tried moving yet — the solution is usually on their side of the puzzle, not the one you've been focused on.

It's a good fit for anyone who likes short, thoughtful puzzle levels rather than fast action — each stage is quick to attempt but takes a moment to actually work out.

Heart Star FAQ

How do I switch between the two characters?
Press C to swap control between the red and blue characters. Only the active one moves, so the other stays put as a platform until you switch back.
Why can't I walk onto some platforms?
Each character can only stand on platforms of their own color. Purple platforms are the exception — both characters can stand on those.
What are the controls?
WASD or the arrow keys move the active character, C switches between the two characters, and X makes the active one jump.
