Friday Night Funkin' is a rhythm battle game: you play as Boyfriend, trying to win over Girlfriend's disapproving father by out-rapping him and the people standing in the way. Arrow prompts scroll up the side of the screen in time with the song, and you hit the matching direction key the instant each one lines up with the target arrows — nail the timing and your health bar tips in your favor, miss too many notes and the song ends.

The game is split into weeks, each a short story beat with its own opponent and three or more songs building from an easy warm-up to a much harder finale. Story Mode plays them in order; Freeplay lets you jump straight to any song you've unlocked, which is where most repeat players spend their time chasing a clean run.

Controls

• Arrow keys (Left / Down / Up / Right) — hit the matching arrow as it reaches the target
• WASD — optional alternate mapping for the same four directions

Tips

• Watch the target arrows, not your fingers — timing is judged against when the note crosses that line, not when you press.
• Losing a song mid-way usually means you rushed a section rather than fell behind — most songs have a rhythm you can feel once you've heard it once.
• Freeplay is the better place to drill one difficult song than replaying a whole week from the start.
