About Doom 2

This is the real Doom II: Hell on Earth from 1994, running in the browser through a DOSBox emulation of the original MS-DOS release rather than a modern remake. You're the Doom Marine again, fighting through city streets and industrial complexes that have been overrun since the demons that first showed up on Mars followed you home.

The pace is what made it famous: circle-strafe around a room, funnel enemies into narrow corridors, and switch weapons on the fly as a fight escalates from a lone zombie to a crowd. Doom II added the super shotgun, a double-barreled weapon that's stayed the fan favorite of the whole series, plus tougher enemies like the Mancubus, Revenant, and Arch-Vile that force you to manage cover and ammo instead of just holding down the trigger.

Controls

Because this runs the original DOS build through emulation, it uses Doom's classic default bindings rather than modern WASD:

  • Arrow keys — move forward/back and turn
  • Alt + arrow keys — strafe sideways
  • Ctrl — fire
  • Space — open doors and activate switches
  • Shift — run
  • Number keys — switch weapons

Tips

  • Save your super shotgun shells for anything tougher than a basic zombie — it drops Hell Knights and Revenants far faster than the regular shotgun
  • Let monsters fight each : a stray shot that clips a nearby demon triggers infighting, which is often safer than taking a full crowd head-on
  • Keep moving — standing still to line up a shot is how you eat a Revenant rocket or an Arch-Vile's flame attack

It's a good fit if you already know Doom II and just want the real 1994 game without installing DOSBox yourself, or if you're curious what the FPS genre looked like before it had analog aiming.

Doom 2 FAQ

Is this the real Doom II or a remake?
It's the actual 1994 MS-DOS release, running in your browser through a DOSBox emulator rather than a modern port or remake.
What are the controls?
Doom's original DOS defaults: arrow keys to move and turn, Ctrl to fire, Space to open doors and switches, Shift to run, and Alt plus arrow keys to strafe.
Can I play this on mobile?
It's built around keyboard input for a DOS-era game, so it works best in a desktop browser rather than on a phone or tablet.
