Earth's Greatest Defender Game

Earth's Greatest Defender is a fast, loud top-down shooter built around one gimmick that changes how you move: a grappling hook. You blast waves of invading aliens with a growing arsenal of guns, but swinging the hook between enemies and terrain to reposition or close distance is what actually carries a run, turning open arenas into something closer to a movement puzzle than a standard shooter.

The campaign is built from short, replayable levels where you pick a difficulty and a character before dropping in to fight off aliens and free captured hostages. Once you clear the story, speedrun timers and a set of harder "impossible" arenas give you a reason to go back through levels you've already beaten, and a built-in level editor lets you build and share your own battlegrounds.

Tips

• The grappling hook isn't just for repositioning — hooking onto an alien mid-fight yanks you into melee range fast, which is often safer than standing and trading shots.
• Use hooks on terrain to swing around corners and break line of sight when a wave gets overwhelming, rather than trying to outrun it on foot.
• Hostage runs reward speed over caution — grapple straight to them instead of clearing every alien first.

It plays in the browser with nothing to install, so a quick campaign level or two fits easily into a short break — and the speedrun and impossible-difficulty modes are there if you want to stay longer.
